Types of Legacy Gifts

1. Bequests

A bequest is a simple way to leave a lasting gift through your will or trust. You can specify a fixed amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder after other bequests have been fulfilled. This type of gift can reduce your estate taxes while supporting a cause you care deeply about.

Sample Bequest Language: “I give, devise, and bequeath to the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, a non-profit organization located at 3025 South Parker Road, Suite 110,Aurora, CO 80014, [Amount/Percentage/Residual of Estate], to be used for its general purposes.”

2. Charitable Remainder Trusts

With a charitable remainder trust, you can place assets into a trust, receive income from those assets during your lifetime, and designate the remainder to the Children’s Diabetes Foundation. This approach provides you with tax benefits while helping us advance our work.

3. Retirement Plan Assets

Naming the Children’s Diabetes Foundation as a beneficiary of your retirement account can be a tax-efficient way to leave a legacy. By doing so, you can avoid estate taxes on these assets and support our mission at the same time.

4. Life Insurance Policies

You can name the Children’s Diabetes Foundation as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy or transfer ownership of an existing policy. This type of gift can be a powerful way to contribute significantly to our cause while benefiting from potential tax advantages.

5. Gifts of Stock or Securities

Donating appreciated stocks or securities can provide significant tax benefits. You can avoid capital gains taxes and potentially receive a charitable deduction. This type of gift can make a meaningful impact on our programs and research.

6. Donor-Advised Funds

If you have a donor-advised fund, you can recommend grants to the Children’s Diabetes Foundation from your fund. This flexible giving option allows you to support our work while potentially benefiting from tax advantages.

7. Other Options

  • Legacy giving doesn’t have to be confined to traditional monetary donations. There are many valuable assets you can contribute to make a lasting impact. Consider including these options in your estate plans:
  • Real Estate: Donate property such as a house, vacation home, or land. Your gift can provide significant support and be a meaningful way to contribute to our mission.
  • Vehicles: Whether it's a car, motorcycle, boat, or RV, your vehicle can be a generous gift. We'll handle the details and ensure your contribution goes where it's needed most.
  • Oil and Gas Rights: If you own mineral rights or royalties, you can transfer these assets to benefit our cause. This type of gift can provide ongoing support and make a substantial difference.
  • Water Rights: If you hold water rights, consider donating them. These rights can be an asset that contributes to our sustainability initiatives.
  • Land: Contributing undeveloped or agricultural land can provide long-term benefits.
