Come see Melissa Manchester, Chris Mann and Sherri Shepherd at this year’s Children’s Diabetes Foundation Carousel Ball on September 21 at the Denver Marriott City Center, continuing the Denver tradition which funds programs for clinical care and research for over 6,000 children and adults at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes.

According to Honorary Chair Barbara Davis, diabetes is increasing at alarming rates and must be stopped.

“Over 30 million people in our country have diabetes and 366 million worldwide. It’s an epidemic and we need to fight it with everything we have,” Davis said.

The event is chaired this year by Charlie and Judy McNeil of NexGen Resources.

Melissa Manchester, Grammy Award winning singer and songwriter, and Chris Mann, the singer-songwriter from NBC’s television singing competition The Voice will be performing.

“We look forward to the Ball every year and feel privileged to be a part of raising money to fight diabetes. This is one of the best nights of the year,” Judy McNeil said.

Sherri Shepherd, co-host of ABC’s The View, actress and author of a new book on diabetes, which made The New York Times best seller list, “Plan D: How to Lose Weight and Beat Diabetes (Even If You Don’t Have It),” will be receiving the High Hopes Award at the event.

“Diabetes is serious business for people like me  with type 2 who can change our lives to control it, but it’s even more serious for those who  have type 1 and will be insulin-dependent their whole lives.  Research shows that one in three babies born today will develop diabetes sometime in their lives. Wake up people.  That’s what I call serious,” Shepherd said.

Community leaders Bonnie and David Mandarich are involved in many local charities and have supported the Children’s Diabetes Foundation since the early years. David is president of MDC Holdings. They are also being honored with the High Hopes Award.
